Moon Fry Bed & Nightstand Project Courses

This online project course will guide you through building the Moon Fry Bed and/or Nightstands. The course covers how to build the bed for any sized mattress that you would like.

All options include digital templates with the option to purchase physical (MDF) templates.

Both pieces are shown here in White Oak, the bed is built for a queen sized mattress, and the nightstands measure 20" tall, 24” wide, and 14” deep.

Tools, Hardware, and Materials

This is not a comprehensive list. Just some guidelines, and a list of the major tools, bits, and hardware that we used. Obviously we don't know what you have, but even with a much more modest workshop, it's highly likely that you can still find a way to complete this project. Skill and patience will always take you further than another tool.

Tools

  • Table Saw

  • Jointer (if using non pre-dimensioned lumber)

  • Planer (if using non pre-dimensioned lumber)

  • Circular Saw or Track Saw

  • Router

  • Band Saw or Jig Saw

  • Domino or Doweling Jig or Mortising Jig (covered in videos)

  • Random Orbit Sander

  • Drill

Router Bits (links provided in plans)

  • Template / Flush Trim Bit

  • Round Over Bits (optional)

  • Flat Bottom Bits

Materials for Bed (specifics and options given in plans, and any species works)

  • 8/4 hardwood for Legs and Mattress Runners

  • 5/4 hardwood for Rails and Footboard Panel

  • 4/4 hardwood for Headboard Panel

  • 3/4 plywood for slats

* Roughly 40-60BF depending which variation of the piece you build (specifics are covered in the plans)
